Seit Juni 2011 leistet Acutus Medical Pionierarbeit für eine neue, beispiellose Methode der minimalinvasiven Bildgebung und Kartierung von Herzrhythmusstörungen.  

Acutus Medical konzentriert seine Aktivitäten auf die Entwicklung einer Technologie zur Behandlung einer speziellen Herzrhythmusstörung, dem Vorhofflimmern (AF). Vorhofflimmern ist ein unkontrollierbarer, schneller Herzschlag, der zu einer bedeutenden Verringerung der Lebensqualität führt und zu ernsthaften Komplikationen wie einem Schlaganfall oder einem Herzversagen führen kann. Weltweit sind mehr als 10 Millionen Menschen von Vorhofflimmern betroffen. Die pharmakologische Therapie ist die derzeit am häufigsten genutzte Behandlungsoption. Doch diese Behandlung ist teuer und oftmals nicht angebracht, wirkt nur lindernd und kann das Vorhofflimmern nicht heilen.
