Active Life's BioDent Reference Point Indenter Validated in Study Published by Osteoporosis Medical Opinion Leaders
Date:1/24/2013

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Jan. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Top Osteoporosis researchers recently published a seminal paper showing that BioDent™ Reference Point Indentation measurements closely relate to toughness, a well-accepted mechanical measure of a bone's ability to resist breaking.   The research was completed at Indiana University / Purdue University in Indiana, led by Drs. David Burr and Max Gallant , and published in BONE, a leading academic journal.

"A growing body of research has shown that Reference Point Indentation (RPI) data has a strong connection with identifying more and less easily fractured bone when bone density cannot," stated Active Life's Field Applications Scientist, Chris Mazzochi , PhD.  "However, this paper is the first to definitively report how BioDentTM measurements relate to the decades of historical data and knowledge from using conventional mechanical testing machines.  As a result of these and other comparable findings, BioDentTM is quickly becoming the gold standard for measuring the contribution of material properties to whole bone strength."

"Dr. Burr and his team have answered an extremely important question about RPI that will help progress the medical understanding of what causes bones to break in crippling diseases such as osteoporosis," said Active Life's Chief Executive Officer, Davis Brimer .  "Now that researchers know BioDentTM measurements are closely related to toughness as measured by conventional mechanical testers, academic labs and drug companies are more easily integrating BioDentTM into their existing and upcoming research projects and publications."
