Acidic Drinks and Foods are Just One of Many Oral Health Concerns, Says Santa Clarita Valley Dental Care
Date:4/14/2019

In a March 27 article on Yahoo Lifestyle, a spokesperson for the American Dental Association revealed that drinking or eating acidic foods in the early morning or any other time can soften the enamel of a person’s teeth; thus, immediately rushing to brush right after a meal has the potential to actually do more harm than good. The spokesperson suggests waiting for about an hour after every meal to brush gives your teeth a chance to rest before being beaten around by a toothbrush. Commenting on the issue, the Santa Clarita Valley Dental Care group says that while the case may need a little more research to fully understand all of the dynamics between eating acidic foods and dental hygiene, the results of not brushing at all after drinking acidic or sugary foods are well documented.

Santa Clarita Valley Dental Care says, however, that many individuals fail to consider proper dental hygiene in their daily routines. Many people will brush their teeth in the morning after breakfast, perhaps before leaving the house for work, but fail to do so after lunch and/or dinner, the clinic adds. The dental group adds that brushing for just two minutes twice a day can make all the difference.

The clinic notes that good daily brushing and flossing habits accompanied by routine dental care can help to ensure a lasting and bright smile. Of course, it continues, many patients prioritize dental visits about as well as they prioritize brushing their teeth, i.e., not so well. This often leads to some form of unchecked, yet minor ailment which can spiral into something much more serious, Santa Clarita Valley Dental Care adds. What might be a minor gum infection now could necessitate much more advanced treatments in the future—and the consequences are not limited to oral health, it notes. It is not uncommon for mouth or teeth-related ailments to affect other areas of an individual’s health, particularly the cardiovascular system, the clinic explains.

In the end, it is simply more cost effective in terms of both money and time to devote a few minutes a day to properly brushing and visiting a dentist when appropriate, Santa Clarita Valley Dental Care says. Concluding, the clinic says that the results of proper dental hygiene often speak for themselves as patients have more confidence in their smiles.
