Features	THE ISSUE: Platelet aggregation pays a key role in the pathogenesis of thrombosis and acute coronary disease Clopidogrel inhibits platelet aggregation Patients exhibit a variable response to clopidogrel THE IMPLICATION: Maximum anti-platelet effects of clopidogrel may not be obtained with standard dosage. Up to 30% of patients may be resistant to the effects of clopidogrel.1,2 Patient assessment may be required prior to initiation of procedures where clopidogrel is given. Pre-surgical testing of platelet function can assess bleeding risk. THE SOLUTION: VerifyNow Clopidogrel A new rapid platelet function assay, VerifyNow Clopidogrel, has been developed by Accumetrics. The assay is specific to the effects of drugs such as clopidogrel. The assay is currently available for Research Use Only (RUO); not for use in diagnostic procedures.
Description	The VerifyNow Clopidogrel Assay measures changes in platelet function in response to patients taking Clopidogrel (Plavix). It uses a specific activator for the P2Y12 pathway, which clopidogrel inhibits. The assay has not been cleared by the FDA, however, the assay is available for Research Use Only (RUO) settings.
