  • Description Sepramesh Biosurgical Composite is designed for the repair of abdominal hernias. It consists of a PPM mesh that has two distinct sides. One side of the mesh is coated with a layer of sodium hyaluronate and carboxymethylcellulose (similar to Genzyme Biosurgery's Seprafilm® Adhesion Barrier). This coated side is bioresorbable, providing a temporary physical barrier that separates the underlying tissue and organ surfaces from the mesh. The other side of the mesh is uncoated, allowing for complete tissue ingrowth similar to bare PPM mesh. Shortly after placement of Sepramesh, the coated side of the mesh becomes a hydrated gel that is slowly resorbed into the body within one week. The bioresorbable barrier separates the mesh from underlying organs while a protective cell layer forms over the mesh. The composite design encourages complete tissue incorporation (repair strength) on the hernial defect while minimizing tissue attachment to the mesh.
