  • Permacol surgical implant is a sterile off white, moist, strong but flexible flat sheet of acellular porcine collagen and its constituent elastin fibres presented moist in sterile saline.
  • Permacol surgical implant comes ready to use in double vacuum packed aluminium foil/polyethylene sachets which are impermeable to oxygen, and is sterilised by gamma irradiation.
  • Permacol surgical implant is non allergenic and resistant to collagenase attack.
  • Permacol surgical implant has both CE and FDA approvals for use in the EU and USA as a permanent surgical implant in humans and is indicated for the reconstruction, recontouring and reformation of soft connective tissue and in surgical repair procedures such as abdominal wall hernias and defects.
Description Permacol surgical implant is a sterile off white, moist, tough but flexible flat sheet of acellular porcine collagen and its constituent elastin fibres presented moist in sterile saline. Permacol surgical implant comes ready to use in double vacuum packed aluminium foil/polyethylene sachets which are impermeable to oxygen, and is sterilised by gamma irradiation.

Porcine dermal collagen has an architecture very close to that of human tissue and as Permacol surgical implant in the sheet format is not a reconstituted form of collagen that 3-D architecture is maintained. A precisely controlled degree of cross-linking is introduced into the structure, making it resistant to collagenase enzymes responsible for the breakdown and resorption of implanted collagen. This unique feature enables surgeons to complete operations and procedures involving tissue reconstruction, recontouring and repair, with durable results.
