| Description | Welcome to a new dimension in vitreoretinal surgery.
By using Perfluoron, a liquid tool composed of purified perfluoro-n-octane, you can greatly expand your surgical capabilities. Perfluoron is ideal for managing retinal detachments complicated by proliferative vitreoretinopathy, giant retinal tears and trauma.
Certified to be >99.9 percent pure, Perfluoron is the purest perfluorocarbon available. The purity of cyclic chain perfluorocarbons such as perfluorodecalin (about 95 percent pure) and perfluorophenanthrene cannot be accurately verified because they generate multiple peaks in gas liquid chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic analysis. However, Perfluoron has a straight chain, which generates a single peak so its purity can be accurately analyzed. Perfluorons properties make your procedure more efficient, with less risk of subretinal fluids, reducing the need for posterior retinotomy. With the lowest possible refractive index of any other liquid perfluorocarbon, you can easily differentiate Perfluoron from irrigating fluids it does not mix with water, ionic solutions or common organic chemicals. Perfluorons low viscosity causes it to form droplets rather than to spread, making it easy to find and remove. It also has the highest vapor pressure to facilitate removal. Another advantage of Perfluoron is its optical clarity, which gives you an unobstructed view of retinal structures. Because Perfluoron is optically clear, it also eliminates the optical reflexes encountered when you dissect under oil. Due to Perfluorons high specific gravity, its tamponading effect is greater than silicone oil to give you unparalleled control. Perfluoron becomes a hydrokinetic tool for opening a funneled retinal detachment in proliferative vitreoretinopathy. It also becomes a third hand for stabilizing the retina for peeling or delamination of epiretinal membranes. Perfluoron provides gentle traction on epiretinal membranes for more precise, efficient procedures. In addition, the high specific gravity of Perfluoron displaces subretinal fluids so the retina flattens completely. Perfluoron is also ideal for laser surgery because it does not absorb visible light and has a higher boiling point (105C) than irrigating fluid. |
