Description	IGFBP-3 contains 266 amino acids and is variably N-glycosylated. The variation accounts for its varying molecular weight estimates of between 43 and 56 kDa. Insulin-like growth factor binding proteins bind IGF-I and IGF-II with high affinity but do not bind insulin. Of the six distinct IGF binding proteins structurally characterized at this time, IGFBP-3 has been shown to be the major carrier of the IGFs transporting approximately 95% of circulating IGF-I and IGF-II. IGFBP-3 circulates as a 150-kDa complex comprised of IGF-I or IGF-II, IGFBP-3, and an 88-kDa protein termed the acid labile subunit (ALS).
