Company W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.
Item HELEX Septal Occluder
Features
Description Open heart surgery is no longer the only available option to correct atrial septal defects in young children and in patients with complicating health factors. Today's health care providers are seeking non-surgical options to close inter-atrial defects.

The GORE HELEX Septal Occluder is a permanently implanted prosthesis and catheter delivery system indicated for the transcatheter closure of ostium secundum atrial septal defects (ASDs).

The Occluder, which is composed of ePTFE patch material supported by a Nitinol wire frame, bridges and eventually occludes the septal defect to stop the shunting of blood between the atria. The process of tissue ingrowth and attachment to the patch creates a permanent defect closure.
