The shift to the new Drug plans in Medicare appears to be backfiring badly in the United States with reports of how many low-income senior citizens were going without essential medicines and were forced to wait for the state officials till they eventually dropped by.//

Many citizens do not properly understand Medicare’s new prescription drug plans and hence they are vary of signing up, but then again they have no option and have to enroll themselves in it. The USAToday's reports that more than 6.4 million have already been compelled to shift to the new plans with 20 million being the final target. In a scathing criticism of the new plans, the paper reported on the plight of two patients who were forced to go without their medicines for nearly a week. 51-year-old Geoffery Foughnor could not get his prostate cancer medicines, while his 75-year-old mother Helen Walker had to wait for her blood pressure pills. This scenario is increasingly being played out in many poor households and unless the government acts, it could really kill someone, says Foughnor. 'Somebody's going to end up dying.' Robert Hayes, president of the Medicare Right Center advocacy group said that this new plan was a "train wreck waiting to happen.'
