It is recently seen that the usage of aspirin to prevent heart problem have increased tremendously//.

The researchers at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health (GSPH) and others conducted the study and published in the American Journal of Medicine. It said that African Americans and diabetics do not opt for aspirin therapy.

The researchers from the medical centers of US and Europe measured regular use of aspirin among 2,163 African American and Caucasian older adults. The participants were devoid of cardiovascular disease.

The study was initially conducted in late 1990s and again between 2002 and 2003. They also analyzed the 10-year heart disease risk rate for all participants.

It was found that during 1997 and 1998, 17 percent of the participants were regular aspirin users. There was an increase in the Aspirin use with increased in the risk of heart disease.

Only 13% used aspirin who had a 10-year low-risk profile whereas 23% in those with a 10-year high-risk profile. However, the percentage of blacks (13%) using aspirin was very less when compared to those of the whites (20%).

The use of aspirin from 1997 and 1998 and 2002 and 2003 doubled (from 17 percent to 32 percent). This is in case of people who are not suffering from coronary heart disease.

In case of diabetic patients who were at a higher risk of developing a heart disease there was a reduced intake of aspirin than those of the nondiabetics, even in 2002 and 2003.
