Young obese girls might develop heart problems later

The seeds of good health are sown at a very young age. Girls in the age group of 9-12 should be extra careful about their eating pattern as obesity developed during// this period is very difficult to get knocked off. Increased blood pressure, erratic levels of triglycerides and cholesterol are some of the indications of child obesity.

In a paper published in The Journal of Pediatrics, it has been observed that obese girls are more likely to suffer from various ailments when they grow up and are certainly in the risk group for different heart related diseases.

This study was done involving 2300 girls in the age group of 9-10 and was monitored for more than ten years. The various parameters like the blood pressure, cholesterol, height and weight were determined every year for ten years till the girls reached their 18th year. Subsequent measurements were taken in their 21st, 22nd or 23rd year.

This study also compared the obesity levels of white girls with that of black girls and it was found that white girls were 1.5 times less likely to become obese than their black counterparts. The study pointed out that 17-24% of black girls are obese.

Another study revealed that obese men are more likely to die due to prostrate cancer. It is generally observed that stout people are at a high risk group with breast and bowel cancer. Margaret Wright of the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, conducted this study following it up with more than 25,000 men in the age group of 50-71.There is something that makes this observation very interesting. Obesity may mark the risk of dying due to prostrate cancer but not getting it. The finding arrived at a lucid correlation between weight and death from prostrate cancer.
