Delving into the non-genetic causes of such a phenomenon, researchers found that early onset diabetes or the age of a patient during diagnosis of the disease has a bearing on the fluctuation in HbA1 c levels over a period of time. It became clear that patients who contracted diabetes before 50 years of age experienced a sharp increase in HbA1c levels .
