'Operation Dengue', State's war against mosquitoes has been formally launched by the Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Friday formally from the Jali Hanuman temple area of Pardiwada in Maharajgunj constituency here. //

The operation will also include an added impetus on the phasing out of the dustbin system of garbage collection in Hyderabad with each household being supplied with small plastic bins. Garbage collectors on cycle rickshaws will collect these bins. Dr Reddy said that its aim was to make Hyderabad a dustbin-free city by December this year.

Dr. Reddy has stated that `Operation Dengue' would be a sustained movement for three years and has called upon the public to aid the Government in the complete eradication of mosquitoes that are responsible for diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and malaria.

Around 3,000 cycle rickshaws have been employed to undertake this job in the twin cities in order to collect garbage directly from households while 300 teams have been assigned designated areas for anti-malarial operations. Each team would visit 200 households.

He said, "You will have to cooperate with them and make sure that both the interiors and exteriors of your house are made safe from mosquitoes."

Yesterday while administering an anti-mosquito/dengue pledge to Government officials, a few school students and public at the Dhoolpet stadium, the Chief Minister said the Government was not leaving any stone unturned in its efforts to curb the mosquito menace.

Dr Reddy said that unlike chikungunya dengue fever was fatal. He pointed out that while dengue had first reared its head in North India before spreading to the South. chikungunya had followed the opposite path.
