Women with borderline ovarian tumors can still preserve their fertility

Women with borderline ovarian tumors can still preserve their fertility// through conservative surgery. In one of the largest study on women with borderline ovarian tumors show that women can preserve their ability to have a child by getting only one ovary removed.

Borderline ovarian tumors are a kind of epithelial ovarian tumors. These tumors have less chance of spreading as a malignant condition. These do respond to treatment by surgeries, but till date there had been no medical procedures that have been able to give a clear and successful treatment to the condition.

Researches before the current one have not been able to show any concrete evidence of the effect of borderline ovarian tumor treatment to the fertility of the women who had undergone the surgery. The new research by Université Paris XIII, France, have shown that younger patients of the condition can opt for pregnancy after removal of one of their ovaries with significant chances being there in them being able to have a full term pregnancy and a successful delivery of the baby.

Researchers said in their research presentation, at the 21st annual conference of the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology, that although the borderline ovarian tumors do have a tendency of recurrence within 70 months of the treatment, there are no reasons to believe that being pregnant is going to help or affect the situation in any way.
