Women may not seek help for pelvic floor disorders

A survey done by the Temple University School of Medicine reported that women who suffer from one or more // pelvic floor disorders often do not report their discomfort or seek medical help. The survey also reports that eventually when they do report to their medical practitioner the problem becomes often complicated and of urogynecological nature.

Pelvic floor disorder is a range of disorders, at least one of the symptoms estimated to affect about one third of the adult women population. Three of the most common symptoms of the disorder are urinary incontinence, anal incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.

The survey results of the study showed that about 72% of the total women surveyed suffered from pelvic floor disorders while 70% had not asked for any medical help for their condition. The study had also noted that some of the risk factors for pelvic floor dysfunction are older age, high body mass index, number of vaginal deliveries, and if forceps were used to assist delivery or not. The symptoms of the disease may begin after the first time a woman gives birth and with age the condition may worsen, depending on the presence of other factors as well. Exercising regularly may help in dealing with the condition.
