'Womb Transplants' are Possible - Research Proved

Scientists surprised women's with damaged or missing wombs by saying in the next five years womb transplants could become possible to have children normally. //

After doing animal experiments (using sheep) researchers recommended that womb transplantation would be possible in humans too without any functional defects.

Women suffering from Rokitansky syndrome (a rare congenital condition affecting womb) can also be benefited from womb transplants since they are able to produce ovaries naturally.

This gives an opportunity for nearly 200 UK women to be paving way to have children naturally.

A research report at the annual meeting of the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (Eshre) has been presented by Prof Mats Brannstrom, of the department of gynaecology at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden, which proved womb transplants were successfully done on sheep.

Many needed to be done for a successful transplant surgery for which we are working for – Prof Mats Brannstrom.

But within 5 years it will be succeeded to provide women a safe technique, which also benefit cervical cancer and fibroid patients.

When uteruses were removed from 12 sheep and replaced after an hour they diagnosed to be functioning in a heathy manner – said Prof Brannstrom and colleagues.

Ten out of twelve sheeps gave birth to healthy offsprings.

Primate studies in this line are more essential to prove it in a best way before trying on humans - added Prof Brannstrom.
