Win-Win with Red Wine!

Resveratrol, a compound present in red wine has contributed to the health ratings of the famous spirit, known to benefit the longevity of obese-mice //on fat laden diets in much the same way as mice on a normal healthy diet. This finding was established by an earlier study conducted by Harvard Scientists.

Delving more into the health benefits of this compound, resveratrol, scientists have uncorked additional blessings, following a second study conducted on mice. The compound is known to directly benefit metabolism and the manner with which energy is expended.

The study found that mice which were given a fat laden diet in addition to resveratrol, did not gain as much weight as the mice on a normal fatty diet. The results were the same for resveratrol-treated mice consuming a normal healthy diet. It was observed that the mice took in the same number of calories, yet they were able to expend the calories at a faster rate, when they were treated with resveratrol. In effect, the basal energy expenditure appeared to be at a higher level in the mice that underwent this treatment. This study also indicates that resveratrol has a bearing on the molecular aging pathways, as established in the study conducted on mice.
