Websites That Offer Panacea for Eating Disorders may Be Dangerous

Web sites that profess to help out teenagers with eating disorders can do much damage ,found a team of researchers from Stanford University. //

The December issue of the journal, Pediatrics, has published the results of the study conducted by the researchers from California.

More than half of all the people who surf websites that offer solutions for all kinds of eating disorders, pick up methods to lose weight, from them. Most teenagers who have eating problems show a tendency to while away their time browsing websites that offer solutions for their eating disorders. They spent very little time with their school work.

About one in hundred teenagers suffer from anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder .Another 1 %-2% exhibit symptoms of bulimia. Experts warn overly censorious parents, who do not allow their children to go out with their peers freely, to beware of greater danger, that lurks in their own homes.Rebecka Peebles the co-author of this study warns that if adolescents are cooped up at home, glued to the internet, seeking counsel to overcome their eating disorders, they might end up getting all kinds of information, that may not be authentic.
