Watch Your Weight during Middle Age

According to the scientists of Kaiser Permanente, overweight or obesity during one’s middle age increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease// later in life.

'The study was presented during the American Academy of Neurology’s 58th Annual Meeting in San Diego.

The researchers from the Kaiser Permanente Foundation Research Institute in Oakland, Calif., studied about 9,000 people for a period of 30 years.

The study participants were evaluated for overweight and obesity by measuring upper arm and shoulder skinfold thickness.

It was found that people with higher skinfold measurements in their 40s were more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease than those with smaller measurements.

The risk of the people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease increased three times if they have high shoulder skinfold measurement.

In case of people with the highest arm skinfold measurements then their risk increased by 2.5 times. Rachel Whitmer said that obesity is a variable factor which can be easily treated.

But still the study is in its preliminary stage and hence has to be confirmed.

Hence in conclusion it is said that keeping the weight down in midlife can help people remain mentally alert later on in life.
