Watch Out For the Erroneous Readings in the Glucose Meters

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) warned that some of the glucose meters are giving faulty readings. The diabetic patients are cautioned about this erroneous equipment //. The meters are found to giving readings which were far too high. Diabetes type 1 patients take insulin if their blood glucose rates are high. This would sometimes lead to patients self administering increased doses of insulin resulting in hypoglycaemic coma.

It is been reported that in few cases, the readings were 18 times higher than the true level. The manufacturers say the main reason behind it is that the units of measurement displayed on affected blood glucose meters have changed from mmol/L to mg/dL. The MHRA have asked the manufacturers to replace, free of charge, all the affected meters. FreeStyle and FreeStyle Mini, manufactured by Abbott Diabetes Care have to be replaced as they show faulty readings. The MHRA is very worried about the consequence of the faulty blood glucose meter results.
