Warfarin holds promise in reducing risk of stroke

Researchers are very optimistic about Warfarin, an anti-clotting drug, which holds promise in reducing stroke risk in patients suffering an abnormal heart rhythm, the side effects notwithstanding //.

Warfarin scores over the present treatment of Plavix plus aspirin for patients suffering atrail fibrillation in preventing strokes.

In the words of Dr Stuart Connolly, of McMaster University in Hamilton,' Oral anticoagulants such as warfarin remain the treatment of choice for preventing stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation.'

Couadin, the brand name of Warfarin, though connected to an enhanced risk of bleeding, is still capable of reducing stroke by two-thirds.
