Based on findings of a recent study researchers say that a diet rich in calcium and Vitamin D //abundantly available in milk, cheese, yogurt and fortified orange juice can actually help women reduce the risk of Pre - Menstrual Syndrome (PMS) symptoms.

Studies in the past have shown that calcium has helped women cope with PMS, however more recent studies suggest that when calcium is combined with enough vitamin D, it may help prevent PMS altogether. Researchers also observed women who ate four servings or more a day of a dairy product, including milk, and found that they were less likely to develop feelings of anxiety, loneliness, irritability, tearfulness and tension that characterize PMS.

Although few of the studies done show positive results when a combination of Vitamin D and calcium were used to treat PMS, researchers are of the opinion that research is still in its preliminary stages to recommend diet changes for women in general until more thorough studies are done in this regard.
