The World Health Organization (WHO), on Friday, had initiated the use of alcohol-based hand cleaners for all hospital staff to prevent infections associated //with Health care practices. WHO said that the practice would not only help in reducing health care costs but also will save lives.

It is estimated that 1.4 million people across the globe are affected by the infections caused by the hospitals, which are mainly spread by doctors and nurses who forget to clean their hands before visiting a new patient.

Didier Pittet, leader of the WHO global patient safety challenge said: 'Around 10% of those affected by infection in hospitals die as a result'.

Doctors and nurses have to constantly clean their hands with an alcohol-based solution and this practice has to be integrated into health care routines–Mr.Pittet added.

35 countries have welcomed this initiative and have signed with WHO to fight infections associated with Health care practices.
