Vitamin B linked to less risk of colorectal cancer in women,,

Women with high dietary intake of vitamin B may be at less risk from colorectal// cancer. And women who take moderate to high intake of alcohol along with vitamin B may have even reduced chance of having colorectal cancer.

Cancer of the colorectal happens when there is growth of abnormal or malignant cells within the lining of colon or rectum. The study, which was done by Swedish and American researchers, said that inadequate intake of dietary vitamin B is at fault for the increased incidence of colorectal cancer amongst women.

Researchers had looked into the health information provided by nearly 67,000 women in he age group of 40 to 75 years. The researchers had looked into all parts of health information including diet, family history of colorectal cancer, and use of diet supplements.

The research results said that alcohol consumption in women with low intake of vitamin B6 increases the risk of colorectal cancer, but increase in the intake of the vitamin reduces the risk substantially.

The recommended dietary intake of vitamin B6, which is available in the foods like beans, chicken, meats, fish, certain fruits and vegetables and in fortified cereals, is 1.3mg to 1.5mg.
