Vegetable Rich Diet Can Cut Risk Of Pancreatic Cancer

Researchers from the University of California have now established that consumption of at least five portions of onions, garlic, beans, carrot, corn, dark leafy// vegetables and citrus fruits can cut the pancreatic risk by as much as 50%. The study is based on interview conducted among 532 pancreatic cancer patients and 1, 700 controls. The new research has been published in the Cancer, Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention journal.

More than 10,000 people die each year in Britain from pancreatic cancer, which is not nearly as common as breast or lung cancer. It remains largely untreatable, with the five-year survival rate at under three percent. Its diagnosis and treatment are particularly difficult.

Finding strong confirmation that simple life choices can provide significant protection from pancreatic cancer may be one of the most practical ways to reduce the incidence of this dreadful disease, Holly said.

However, the scientists acknowledged that the results might have been influenced by food that may often be eaten with the vegetables and other lifestyle factors, such as smoking.
