The exciting Valentine’s Day proposal to sell condoms in school through installation of condom vending machines has been suggested by the third largest political party in Australia.//

Kate Reynolds, who represents the Democrats in South Australia's state parliament, said the issue was health, not morals.

"The facts are simple - high school teenagers are having sex," Reynolds said.

"They are not telling their parents, but they are certainly telling their friends. We can't stop them having sex, but we can stop them getting sexually transmitted diseases and we can prevent unwanted pregnancies."

Reynolds said vending machines would let pupils buy condoms easily and without guilt.

"It's not for politicians to mandate other people's morals," she said. "But it's our duty to make sure people can make informed choices about their sexual health and contraception."
