United Kingdom: Making the most of sunshine without the cream

A recent survey has shown that nearly 25% of people in UK expose themselves to the rays of the sun without any protection of a cream, which has raised alarm among cancer experts, who are rather troubled by this cream-free attitude.//

They warn that with blazing August on the cards and a record high temperature in July, it would indeed pay to be generous with sun cream to protect the skin.

The trend is also because nearly 58% of the people do not feel it is necessary to use a cream, simply because they have underestimated the effect of the UV rays from the UK sunshine. Data revealed that while gardening, about 4 out of 10 avoided applying any protection for UV rays and nearly 50% regularly avoided it during outdoor activities.

There is a lurking danger of skin cancer which can arise due to over exposure to the UV rays in sunlight. Professor Richard Marais, of the Institute of Cancer Research, said: "The research highlights a common misconception that the Sun in the UK is not dangerous and you do not need to protect yourself. Whilst the UV rays may not be as strong in the UK as they are in some countries they still damage skin and can cause skin cancer."

There is a message in this for all UK residents to amply protect themselves during summer, at the least to use sun cream lotions.
