National statistics show that the numbers of uninsured people in US have increased. This is due to the fact that the government does not provide health insurance for people who are not disabled or are not senior citizens.// Those who are not insured are recent college graduates and patients from middle-class and suburban backgrounds.

Also people who are in the age group of 20 to 64 are devoid of insurance. The Robert Wood Foundation has estimated that around 90% of the people lack insurance in this age group. The Community Clinics Association of LA County estimated that 30 percent of patients in the age group of 20-34 and 35 percent in the age group 35-64 are not insured.

Rick Sawyer a 60 year old man from Scotia, N.Y., who suffered from an attack the previous year found himself facing a huge stack of hospital bills and did not have a health insurance. This made him visit the free clinics every year.

It’s not that people who live in dreaded conditions, homeless and drug addicts are those who visit the free clinics but is also for people like Eric Moore who completed his graduation. His category was that he earns too much to qualify for a government help but too little to afford health insurance. He suffered a blood clot in his left leg which made him approach the free clinics.

Among those who are uninsured 56% work full time and the rest work part time working in shifts with two or three jobs. It’s not a necessity that if you are working, you are assured a health insurance like in the case of Luis Moreira who is working in a full time job for a decade but doesn’t possess a health insurance because it is very expensive.
