Unicef Appeals To Prioritize Children In Fight Against AIDs

The UNICEF has urged that the orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) need to be prioritized in the global fight against HIV/AIDS.//

In their new report, 'A Call to Action: Children, the Missing Face of AIDS', Unicef called for renewed vigour to tackle the distress of children and also to realize the targets chartered in the UN Millennium Development Goals, on AIDS, child mortality and maternal health, for the year 2015.

Anti –AIDs drugs are sill not sufficiently available for children while significant progress has been achieved in providing low-cost anti-AIDS drugs to HIV-positive adults, the report points out.

"We call upon every part of the global society to join in a campaign to support national efforts to ensure that this is the last generation of children that must bear the burden of HIV/AIDS," the report said.
