Unholy Grail Found?

In the exciting and hotly debated world of stem cell research yet another request has been put before the US Food and Drug Administration.//

UK based company ReNeuron has appealed for permission of trials on twelve stroke patients. This will involve killing or aborting a human fetus at a 12-week-old stage and transplanting his or her stem cells into the brains of patients.

Stem cells can be found in embryos and have the capacity of morphing into any other type of cell type. This in turn can develop into a wide range of tissues and muscle; hence their use in medical therapies.

Says Joe Corner of UK’s Stroke Association “ The research is very interesting. The Holy Grail for stroke research has been to find a way of regenerating the damaged part of the brain. Until now its been thought that the damage was irreversible.“

Religious groups have come out very strongly against the move describing it unethical in every way and akin to cannibalization. John Smeaton of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children calls the proposal ‘sick’ and that it involves ‘killing of one member of the human race to help another’.
