Research investigators at the cancer treatment center in Houston stated yesterday that ultrasound is fast becoming a safe and reliable source of detecting breast cancer in pregnant woman. //

Dr. Wei Yang of the Anderson, of the centre said that they are hoping to educate young women that the symptomatic breast cancer that occurs during pregnancy can be imaged, diagnosed and treated while pregnant, and so they should not wait to seek medical attention if they start to have suspicious symptoms.

Dr. Yang and her collegues, studied 23 women who were diagnosed with breast cancer while pregnant. They found that ultrasound detected breast cancers in all of the women who had it, while mammography detected 90 percent of the cancers.

Cancer of the breast can be very difficult to detect during pregnency, and ultrasound is now proving to be a great help for detection and the action of the chemotherapy, she stated.
