Uganda Faces Crisis in the Field Of HIV/AIDS Due To Budget Cuts

Uganda faces a serious funding crisis as a result of budget cuts. This may affect the thousands of HIV/AIDS patients who have access to the key medications//. Kihumuro Apuuli, director general of the Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC) said that the budget cuts would affect patients' access to anti-retroviral drugs (ARVs). As such itself a number of other organizations are retrieving back their operations and hence the government has to fill the existing gaps.

As Uganda has failed to reduce the annual healthcare budget it has to reduce the money for the health sector. But this would affect the people as the recent report says that more Ugandans were getting infected with HIV at a rate of 130, 000 annually. The number of people who would need the ARVs is going to double and the crisis would hit them badly. The UAC said that it requires 1.2 billion U.S. dollars annually to accelerate the search for AIDS vaccine but only 650 million dollars were provided. The Ministry of Health said that the affected people all lay in the age group of 15-to-40 years old.
