U.S. Ranked Poor In Health Care Systems

Health Care System in U.S. receives a low score (66 out of 100) in comparison with other countries //on its first national scoring system of the 18-member Commonwealth Fund Commission. The Commonwealth Fund Commission, formed in 2005 aims in promoting better health care systems for low-income and uninsured groups.

The study stated that these rankings were based on the scoring in various areas like healthy life expectancy, infant mortality, nursing home care, uninsured access to health care, electronic information systems, etc. The Commission reported that although U.S. stands number one in health care costs and spends more money on health care, the overall performance of the health care system within the U.S. ranked much lower when compared to other countries.

“U.S. has some of the best-equipped hospitals and best-trained physicians in the world” often providing extraordinary care to patients – say the commission report. The report added that the reason for the problem in the U.S. is because of the inefficiency in allocating the resources and better deployment of health information technology.

It is found that there are tens of thousands of Americans dying annually from preventable errors and the report suggests on providing higher quality care and efficiency with greater access and equality for all Americans.
