Trans-fat Foods to Vacate Room from the World’s Leading Hotelier

In a decision announced Thursday, Marriott International claimed the complete elimination of all trans-fat containing foods from its menu throughout all its 2300// hotels.

The company had already declared its hotels smoke-free last year and had since phased out trans-fats; partially hydrogenated oils that are known to clog arteries, from its cookies, breads, salad dressings, pasta and burgers.

Following in Marriott International’s footsteps is the Omni chain of hotels.

Other companies joining the campaign against trans-fat are Burger King, McDonald’s, Wendy’s, KFC and Starbucks.

In January 2006 the FDA had made it mandatory to label food products containing trans-fats. Since then New York had made moves to get it’s restaurants declared trans-fat free.

If other companies follow suit the city will be the first to have all restaurants become trans-fat free zones.
