Time for Bono to Rock 'The Independent' For AIDS Awareness

U2 frontman and the much acclaimed Irish rock star Bono would be the Editor for 'The Independent' newspaper for a day//, in an attempt to bring to spotlight the deadly face of AIDS in the African continent.

The publication on May 16th, in addition to highlighting his editorial talent would also encourage various corporate giants to help curb the AIDS epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa. Noted brands such as American Express, Giorgio Armani, Converse and Gap have already committed to participate in the noble cause.

The new paper would be challenging and innovative, said Simon Kelner, Editor in Chief, The Independent.

A spokesperson for Bono tells the paper: 'He is tickled to be let loose on such a great paper. He's enjoying using the talents of its journalists to explore issues that are vital to him,' said a spokesperson for Bono. 50% of the revenues for that day would be donated to Product Red, an initiative of the rock star to improve health care, more specifically in the underdeveloped countries.
