Time For Jodhpur Residents To Have A Health Check: New Hospital Coming Up

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) proposes to construct a new tertiary care hospital in Jodhpur following the consent of the Government to provide land for construction.// The hospital would be built with all ultra-modern facilities.

The Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI), engaged in research dealing with arid regions has agreed to provide 100 acres of land for the noble cause. The project has been kept under consideration for a long time due to the reluctance of CAZRI's regarding provision of land.

It was originally decided 4 years ago to construct six new AIIMS-like hospitals in different parts of the country, including Jodhpur by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. The plan was sanctioned by the central government due to the efforts of Congress chief minister in Rajasthan-Ashok Gehlot and Union finance minister Jaswant Singh.

The original allocation for the entire project amounts to Rs.52 billion, while the project in Jodhpur approximates to over Rs.8 billion. Following the green signal, the central government had then selected 100 acres of land for the project, that belonged to CAZRI. Several rounds of high-level meetings between the state government and CAZRI have proved fruitful with respect to land acquisition.

"With the sorting out of the land problem, the construction of the hospital is likely to be soon," an official from the technical education department told IANS.

In view of the fact that India is fact emerging as a destination for quality health care, such an initiative has to be welcomed and appreciated.
