Three Scottish Hospitals Fail To Meet Cleanliness Standards: NHS

Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary, the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and the Raigmore in Inverness do not maintain hygiene standards, according to the quarterly report// released by NHS in Scotland.

The study categorized hospitals by traffic light with red for hospitals failing to meet even 70% of the set standards, amber for hospitals in the 70% and 90% range and green for above 90%. In case of ERI, the rate was 84.1%, while Raigmore scored 83.1% and the Royal Alexandra had a rate of 84.4%.

The BBC reports that other leading hospitals in Scotland had the following scores "Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (97.8%), Dundee's Ninewells hospital (97.7%), Glasgow Royal Infirmary (96.9%), Glasgow's Gartnavel General Hospital (96.6%) and the Glasgow Western Infirmary (94.2%)."

Health Minister Andy Kerr said that the report demonstrated that the government was aware for the need of maintaining cleanliness. Brian Cavanagh, chair of NHS Lothian said, "Consort, who are responsible for the cleaning at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, were told some time ago that they needed to improve their cleanliness audit procedures. It is unacceptable that cleanliness standards have not been met."
