The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence arrested three persons, including the Managing Director of a pharmaceutical company based at Vijayawada//, for alleged illegal export of Ephedrine tablets, a controlled substance notified under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
According to Directorate of Revenue Intelligence here today, the arrested persons have been remanded to judicial custody by the Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Hyderabad.
The arrested persons had ‘conspired in procurement and illegal export of around 2500 cartons each containing one lakh tablets valued at Rs 10 crore in the international market’, the release said.
The examination of the Laptop maintained by the Managing Director of Venkat Pharma Limited, having its factory at Vijayawada and registered office at Hyderabad, revealed that they have ‘exported the Ephedrine tables in the guise of their regular pharmaceutical formulations’.
The Managing Director procured the said tablets from local dealers through another accused based at Vijayawada.
The former business development head of the pharmaceutical company was also arrested who had visited some Africian countries and liaised with customers for distribution of these tablets, the release added.
