Research points in the direction that is children are obese by 11 years would be so in adulthood. //

This was revealed in a study by scientists at University College London who studied and followed about 6,000 children in Britain for five years. The results were that almost a quarter had a weight problem when they entered secondary school.

According to team head Professor Jane Wardle, 'Children who joined the study at age 11 and were already plump did not slim down at all over the five years of follow-up. It looked like obesity at 11 is already persistent obesity, so these things are being set earlier than we had previously thought.'

Since, the findings are done on British children it does not mean that they cannot be global.

In her words, 'I think of it as being part of the whole obesity epidemic. What is happening is that persistent obesity is starting earlier and earlier.'

29 percent of females were overweight or obese, 38 percent among black girls but 20 percent for Asian females.

This points that the world needs to look at childhood obesity much more seriously.
