According to a new research, oxygen therapy at home reduces hospitalisation in those with lung disease. Researchers at the University Hospital of Denmark, have studied the effects of oxygen on 200 patients with smoker's lungs// - where the blood becomes deficient in oxygen. The oxygenation was begun in an outpatient clinic, then continued at home.

Having oxygen therapy, for at least 15 hours a day, proved to be beneficial. The patients had a 40 per cent reduction in days spent in hospital with lung problems, and a 20 per cent reduction in the actual numbers of admissions to hospital. The study suggests that giving oxygen at home is a good way of alleviating the problems linked with lung disease.
