The Tazewell County Gears Up To Tackle West Nile Virus

According to the recent report from the health authorities of central Illinois they are going through a period of West Nile virus disease//. Statistics show that the disease is prevalent in the month of July and results in a couple of deaths.

The scenario was worse in 2002 were human deaths crossed 66. But due to various precautionary measures and other efforts put in by the health authorities the number of deaths reduced to 12 in 2005. It is mainly transmitted by a mosquito and in the current year the first case of West Nile virus was reported in a bird. But the health department of the Tazewell County said the virus is very dangerous.

The county as precautionary measures has set up mosquito traps. But Sara Sparkman, Community Projects Manager for Tazewell County Health Department said that the results have come out negative. But this is continuing and hence the general public are becoming aware of, and staying in doors during the dusk to dawn hours. The public are also requested to eliminate stagnation of water and routinely change the water in bird baths every three days.
