What others think of us and to what extent their perception influences our behavior has often intrigued researchers. A write-up about this//, in the latest issue of Current Directions in Psychological Science reveals that that we are pretty much bound by what people do and the manner in which their feelings are expressed towards us. This is often infectious and exerts a strong pull on an individual’s thought process.

Infact, these perceptions often linger in the mind, the consequences of which we are sometimes unaware of. During a small experiment, researchers demonstrated to a study group a picture of a library and ushered them into the library soon after. There was an unexplained silence as the group entered the library, like a reflex action, without anybody cautioning them to do so.

The article seems to establish the fact that, often underlying and hidden influences cause us to behave in a manner that sometimes we may not even know of. So there are certain influences that are intangible and are present possibly at the subconscious level. When one is aware of such influences, it becomes easier to regain a control over our lives.
