Washington –Nearly 2000 stores in 17 states will make space for a new entrant, The Food Pyramid Guide, purported to be a guidance to people to buy the right kind of food. //The novel rainbow-colored food pyramid which essentially follows the federal dietary guidelines is one of the strategies by the U.S government, to encourage people to adopt healthy eating habits.

The food pyramid guide which had made the internet its home has begun going places. The guide, shaped like a triangle has made a beeline for the supermarkets, and is assisted by many of the food companies and stores who believe in the best interests of people.

Cal Dooley, head of the Grocery Manufacturers of America and Food Products Association said 'We also know we have a whole host of products that are meeting the guidelines today.'

Responding to the drive, Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns said, "It's a powerful way to extend the reach of the federal nutrition guidance system,” adding that this campaign is a move to help people who are short of time, but want to eat healthy.

Of course, if there are bouquets there are brickbats as well. Many officials have dismissed this effort as a publicity gimmick. Michael Jacobson, executive director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, feels the same and said, 'This program won't undermine Americans' diets, but it won't significantly improve people's diets. It's a cute, silly little thing. It's not a serious government action.'
