The Fat Divide

There appears to be something of a great divide in terms of flesh, between the less informed chips and pizza chomping Britons and their health conscious watch –what –you -eat// fellow citizens.

The National Health Service (NHS) is seriously worried about rocketing obesity figures that cost the NHS around 3.3 billion pounds annually and has come up with a new plan. This involves trusts funded by them to get people considered ‘fat’ onto the dance floor. The trusts will fund activities like trampolining, tango, and street dancing among a host of other activities.

There have been pilot projects like the Girls getting active, Local Exercise Action Pilot (LEAP) that have helped in a definite way. Yet there is still no example of an effective national programme that has reduced obesity rates.

In the coming weeks, general practitioners all over the country will be asked to hand over questionnaires to their patients, in a bid to find out how fat and unfit the nation is. On the basis of this activities will be chalked out and suggested to them.

If things get moving, don’t be surprised to see your fat neighbor jiving past your front gate.
