The FDA Warns Consumers Against Purchase of Drugs on Web

The Food and Drug Administration, FDA, warns consumers to restrain from purchasing sleep aids, antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications over the Internet.//

The drugs advertised as sleeping pills and anti depressants were in reality a powerful anti-psychotic, which would eventually land victims in hospitals.

Federal health officials revealed that Ambien-a sleep aid, Xanax and Ativan- anti-anxiety medications and Lexapro an antidepressant were all made of haloperidol, the schizophrenia drug.

The fraud came into light with reports of several consumers seeking emergency medical treatment after taking the pills with symptoms such as difficulty in breathing and muscle stiffness. This led to a preliminary examination of these drugs by FDA.

FDA found they contained haloperidol , the schizophrenia drug.

According to reports, the pills are packaged in plain plastic bags and mailed in envelopes bearing Greek postmarks. The FDA has strictly warned consumers of the risks associated with buying prescription drugs on line and has also posted pictures of the alleged pills along with their shipping packages on its Web site.
