Thailand to Explore Stem Cell Technology for Treatment of Heart Disease

Thailand is poised to take the promising field of stem cell technology further. Thailand will be the champions of a pioneering study //that intends to verify the virtue, success and safety of stem cell technology in providing a cure for heart disease.

Experiments will be conducted on humans, and will target 40 heart patients. This study will be a fusion of efforts from the Department of Medical Sciences, Mahidol University and the Cardiac Institute of Thailand.

The test will be completed in a 2 month time frame. Despite the completion of the experiment in 2 months, yet it will take the teams at least a year to conclusively prove the benefits of stem cell treatment on heart patients, due to the necessity of thorough follow up with the patients in the experiment.

Pakdee Pothisiri, secretary-general of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has confirmed the department’s efforts in drawing a legal framework that can lay emphasis on strict control and safety in the imports and exports of stem cells.

The study on the efficacy of stem cells, will a go a long way in not only providing succor for people suffering from heart disease but will also serve as regenerative medicine for other diseases such as diabetes and brain disorders.
