A Danish study had reported that children in their teens and women are the most affected by sunburns, when exposed to the harsh glare of the sun. // In the report that was published in the Archives of Dermatology, the researchers had asked 340 volunteers to wear a wristwatch that is actually a UV radiation (UVR) dosimeter that measures time-stamped UVR doses.

The volunteers of the study included children, adolescents, indoor workers, sunbathers and gardeners. Researchers had measured a typical sunburn day as the day when people were major exposed to the sun, as in sun bathing or exposing the shoulders in the months of May, June and July for 6 or more hours, the half of which is during the time of 12 noon to 3 pm.

The results of the study had showed that adolescents, sun worshippers, and indoor workers are more prone to sunburn than others. Maximum sunburn seems to occur at the age of 20 yrs, while more women volunteers got sunburned than their male counterparts. People who were more sun exposed were more sunburned, while exposure in the hours of 12 noon to 3 pm caused most sunburn.
