Survey Finds Americans Not Averse To Cosmetic Surgery

The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS) 2006 Consumer Perspective Survey has found that while less than 10 percent of US citizens have had cosmetic surgery//, a great number are planning one at some point of time in the future.

Jeff Knezovich, executive vice president of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS), said that times have changed a lot since the 1970s when such surgery was rarely mentioned. He told Reuters Health that the topic has become a "dinner table conversation."

"People are becoming more aware of cosmetic surgery and its benefits," Knezovich added. The survey had 1,010 interviews estimated to represent 1.4 million households among people aged 18 to 65 years.

The findings indicate that one in five individuals want to opt for cosmetic surgery in future., these numbers included men as well. Knezovich says that the main feeling is one of competition in men. "I have to be competitive in the marketplace... (to) compete with the younger person coming in the door," he said.
