A surgeon in Chennai performed 41 hernia surgeries in 13 hours, 41 minutes and 19 seconds said a press release of a hospital here in Chennai. //

The surgeon Dr J S Rajkumar, chairman, Lifeline hospitals was attempting to surpass the previous record of 41 surgeries in 24 hours.

The patients on whom the surgeries were done were poor patients. Apparently the surgical exercise was backed by a team of dedicated professionals and support staff working in three shifts in the newly opened hospital.

The surgeries took place in five theatres and 70 beds in the hospital had been exclusively reserved for the patients who underwent the surgery.

Some doctors when contacted about his record and asked to comment said: ‘This exercise was undertaken for no known valid reason except perhaps to beat a possible previous record and give publicity to the newly opened hospital’ They further added: There was no mention about the type of hernias and what will happen .in the post-operative period’.

Further information about these patients is awaited and it is hoped that the hospital will keep the medical fraternity informed about these patients.
